Biomass boilers take a while to heat up compared to gas boilers so to provide instant heat a buffer tank is fitted with temperatures of 70-90 degrees at all times.The biomass boiler only looks at heating the buffer tank to a commissioned temperature relevant to heating requirements. This is usually done by having a high and low buffer temperature sensor linked back to the biomass boiler. Once the buffer bottom temperature is reached the biomass will shut down and turn back on once the top buffer temperature drops to a preset switch on temperature. Therefore the heating demand is drawn from the buffer tank to the property that has a storage of hot water from 70-90 degrees at all times. It is very important to size the accumulator tank in accordance with the boiler size. If the buffer tank is too small then the boiler will switch on and off too much which is not very efficient. If the buffer is too larger then the buffer tank will struggle to get up to temperature and work at 100% output for longer periods of time, this can cause additional wear and tear on parts and end up being expensive replacing parts.
